🏔️ Torres del Paine: the wild soul of Patagonia
🕰️ History of the place
Torres del Paine National Park , created in 1959 and declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978, is one of the most recognized natural icons in the world.
Its geological history began more than 12 million years ago with the formation of the Torres del Paine , three granite peaks that rise above the glacial valleys.
Before the arrival of European settlers, the area was home to the Aonikenk or Tehuelche peoples, nomads of the Patagonian pampas.
Today, the park symbolizes the identity of southern Chile , a territory where wind, silence and immensity define the experience.
🌿 Flora and fauna
Paine National Park boasts an amazing biological diversity: guanacos, foxes, huemul deer, pumas , condors, flamingos, and more than 120 species of birds.
Its flora varies according to altitude: Patagonian steppe, lenga and ñirre forests , and Andean highland vegetation. During spring, the valleys are filled with native flowers such as the mata negra and the uniflora calceolaria.
It's a paradise for photographers and nature lovers.
🌎 Destination description
Located 150 km from Puerto Natales and 400 km from Punta Arenas , the park covers more than 227,000 hectares of mountains, glaciers, rivers and lakes.
The trails are among the most famous in the world: the W Circuit and the O Circuit , ideal for those seeking adventure and total disconnection.
Its climate is unpredictable and windy , with sun, rain and snow in the same day, which enhances its wild and mystical character.
