🎨Valparaíso y Viña del Mar: la esencia de la costa chilena

🎨Valparaíso and Viña del Mar: the essence of the Chilean coast

🕰️ History of the place

Valparaíso , founded in 1536, was for centuries the most important port in the South Pacific.
Its hills, connected by old elevators, shaped a unique city, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site .
Artists, poets and sailors turned it into a cultural icon: Pablo Neruda found inspiration here for his house-museum La Sebastiana , and his creative spirit lives on in every mural and staircase.

Just 10 kilometers away, Viña del Mar emerged as the elegant resort of the 20th century, with European palaces, golden beaches and an active social life.
Together, they represent the dual soul of the central coast: the spontaneous art of Valparaíso and the coastal harmony of Viña.

🌿 Flora and fauna

The central coast combines cliffs, wetlands and urban parks where seagulls, pelicans, sea lions and terns abound.
Viña del Mar is known for its National Botanical Garden , home to more than 3,000 plant species, many of them endemic.
In the Lago Peñuelas National Reserve , a few kilometers away, you can see foxes, coypus and migratory birds.

🌎 Destination description

Valparaíso is an open-air museum: a vertical labyrinth of 42 hills full of color, history and art.
Its murals, staircases and viewpoints — such as the Alegre, Concepción and Artillería hills — offer views that capture the soul of the port.
Viña del Mar , on the other hand, is its bright counterpart: wide beaches, gardens, gastronomy and coastal elegance.
From its Flower Clock to Quinta Vergara and Reñaca , Viña is the most recognizable summer postcard of Chile.
